Canada never fails to deteriorate

Meanwhile, our national degradation continues: Henry Morgentaler, Canada's most famous abortionist, has been awarded the Order of Canada. Mark my words, and remember that I predicted that eventually they'll try to give it to euthanizer Robert Latimer.

But we are not yet entirely without honour. A Catholic priest in B.C., Father Lucien Larre, is returning the Order of Canada he received for his good work among emotionally disturbed and addicted teens. He'd rather not have it than stand in such debased company, a sentiment that is too rarely seen today, especially among Nobel Prize winners.
There is a thing, Harry, which thou hast often heard of, and it is known to many in our land by the name of pitch. This pitch, as ancient writers do report, doth defile; so doth the company thou keepest.

Dr Mabuse,

This one really hit me in the gut. If I have been guilty in the past of saying I was "sickened" by an event, I apologize. This one hurt immediately as I read it, and bad.

As tough as you are, I suspect you are crying at this. If you aren't, I am.

It just made me...giddy. That was the headline on the front page of yesterday's Ottawa Citizen. The day after Canada Day, which somehow made it worse. I've gotten very jaded and hardbitten about all the fluffy multi-culti Canadian boosterism that seems more and more de rigeur ever year, to the point where I barely pay attention to the holiday. But still, I must retain some prehistoric memories of when Canada Day DID elicit genuine feelings, because this just left me feeling sick and ashamed. It was like an enormous, smirking "F-you" from the crafty, clever elites who engineered it, to the stupid little people who ate hotdogs and watched fireworks the day before. "You want to celebrate your country? Celebrate THIS!" I'm so enraged, I can't even think of what to do.

Well..there was a time in the 80s when I made it it a point to be OUT of Canada on "Canada Day"(what a great name for a national holiday...England celebrates "England Day", France, "France Day", Germany "Germany Day", etc.)

I enjoyed a good holiday and am glad I didn't see the story until Wednesday morning, in the paper tree media at Burger King's.

I called my MP (Rick Dykstra)'s office and told the suave responder that if Dykstra did not publicly denounce this I would not vote for him in the next election. And I will not. The gentleman answering had readily crafted replies, and I suspect he has got a lot of such phone calls.

I suspect there may be a rebirthing of the Reform Party. Except that the establishment Tories own the "Reform" name everywhere. So I am going to write folks and urge the starting of a REFROM PARTY(sic). Becuz us such illeterate hillbillies don't write so good.

Money quote from Morgentaler:

He said opposition to abortion on religious grounds does not trouble him, "as long as they are not allowed to influence other people, by force or by any other means."

...Including, I suppose, persuasion, reasoned argument, moral admonishment, and heartfelt pleading.

While we're on the subject of Canada's deterioration, here's a scary little gem that's been making the rounds amongst American evangelicals.

That's truly disgusting.

God bless that priest, though.

Dr. Mabuse,
This is another example of why my family and I left Canada ten years ago. I applaud the priest who returned his medal. The Order of Canada has been so devalued that having one and a couple of Loonies will get you a cup of coffee at Tim Horton's. I still fly the Red Ensign and remember the original lyrics to O Canada and The Maple Leaf Forever.

One small ray of hope, when faced with Islam and The Catholic Church your grand inquisitor, the HRC, backed down...sometimes a bigger dog or two does the job:
