R.I.P. Karen Mahoney

I'd like to ask for prayers for the repose of the soul of Karen Mahoney. She was a teacher in Thomas's autism unit, and his home room teacher last year, and died last Thursday, during the Spring Break. We will miss her.

Thank you for posting this - helped me to find Karen's obituary online. She was passionate about her work, and will be missed by us all.

Oh my, she was young. How is your son taking it? Autistic children don't deal well with change....

He doesn't understand about things like Death. I told him, "We have to say bye-bye Karen," and he just answered "Bye-bye Karen!" He doesn't express understanding of *absence* very clearly. When something disappears, he may not seem to notice it, but if it comes back, he'll react very strongly. He's very innocent, and really doesn't understand grief. In some ways his life is easier than ours.
